"How come you don’t act like a Christian?"

I was born in a Christian family, but later on I developed my own faith. I saw that God exists and does miracles, responds to prayers. When you see other gods or religions, you have to earn their approval, but Jesus just accepts you the way you are and you don’t have to do anything to gain that love.

In Macedonia it is hard because it’s an Orthodox country and my classmates used to call me the ‘new believer‘. It was offensive, but at that time I didn’t understand why they say so. Sometimes I was really ashamed to say that I go to church and that my father is a pastor because of these reactions from others. People thought that we changed our faith and we should be punished for that. They used to go to the church just for certain reason and because of tradition, even though they could not explain why they do what they do.

I still see that there are people who are ashamed to say that they believe in God. Of course, you cannot force them if they haven’t experienced Him. I see, for example, the Bible groups at LCC have a great impact on students. Some of them practice other religions and then they ask us “How come you don’t act like Christian?“ They have strong rules about alcohol and sex before marriage and that’s why they think, “You Christians are not a good examples of faith because you don’t stick to the rules.“ It is something to think about for myself as well as for others. Everywhere you go people look at you and whatever you say will not make others to believe because you have to prove it with your actions.
